TRAVERSE CITY — Split into groups, the Detroit Red Wings looked full of energy on their first day of training camp – but it was hard not to notice who wasn't there. Moritz Seider, No. 1 on the team's defense depth chart, wasn't at Centre Ice Arena Thursday because the restricted free agent still does not have a new contract.

The Dallas Stars have been attending the Traverse City tournament for several years to give their prospects a chance to showcase themselves. Although it is no longer a tournament with multiple teams, the Stars and the Detroit Red Wings were able to play each other twice in two days.
