The top track and field athletes in the world don't just show up at the Olympics. The Diamond League, now in its 15th year, serves as the "regular season" of sorts for sprinters, distance runners, jumpers and throwers over five months.

But after a strong season either side of the Olympics, the Diamond League has upped the money on offer to competitors at each of its 15 stops in 13 countries. Prize money of more than $9m (£6.8m) will be available in 2025, the highest in the history of the series, while top athletes will also receive promotional fees.

MONACO (AP) — The Diamond League track and field series is set to increase its prize money next season, World Athletics said Wednesday. The announcement comes as the World Athletics president Sebastian Coe bids to become president of the International Olympic Committee.

The Diamond League, track and field’s annual international circuit, is increasing its prize money to its highest level since its creation in 2010. The total prize money for the 2025 season — $9.24 million — is almost one-third higher than in the 2021-24 period, according to a press release.

On Wednesday, the Wanda Diamond League announced that it will increase the prize money pot for the 2025 season to the highest it's ever been in the circuit's history. In a decision made by the Diamond League General Assembly on Sunday, the league will award a total of $9,240,000 over the course of 15-meeting season in 2025.
