In what continues to be a lively year for AOR giants Journey, Neal Schon and Deen Castronovo have both gone on the offensive after singer Arnel Pineda's performance during the band's recent Rock In Rio show in Brazil was criticised online.

Neal Schon has spoken up in support of Journey bandmate Arnel Pineda after the singer received negative comments for his recent performance at Rock in Rio — and he claimed that festival headliners Avenged Sevenfold were to blame.

According to a handful of posts around the Internet, Journey vocalist Arnel Pineda performed so poorly at Rock In Rio that he's asking fans if he should step down from the band. According to Journey guitarist Neal Schon, it's a buncha media hype and another band is to blame.

This all mostly stems from a post by Facebook profile Behind the Songs in which they shared video of the performance in question. In addition to posting the video, the page ripped into Pineda’s performance, saying it was bad because of his “bad voice” and “severe vocal failure.”

Journey, known for hit songs like “Open Arms,” “Separate Ways,” “Faithfully” and “Any Way You Want It,” recently celebrated its 50th anniversary. The rock band first formed in 1973 with former Santana guitarist-vocalist Neal Schon, the only constant original member of Journey, and Syracuse native George Tickner
